We will study the group theory mostly as a review, the ring theory including Euclidean domains and polynomial rings, the module theory including
modules over principal ideal domains, and some representation theory of finite groups. These are fundamental topics for many areas of pure-mathematics
such as the number theory, algebraic topology, algebraic geometry, and so on.

The undergraduate knowledge of groups and vector spaces will be very helpful for this course. However, we will not necessarily assume these as prerequisite.

Course book:  Abstract Algebra, Dummit and Foote, 3rd Edition, John Wiley.
Supplementary: Algebra, Hungerford, GTM 73, Springer

Grading: Midterm exam (150pts) Final exam (150pts) Report (100pts) Attendance (50pts) Total 450pts

Important Reminder: You need to solve in the order given in the book. You have to mark
the problems you did not solve.
